Capture Stunning Images and Videos With Canon 60D

Renowned for designing and manufacturing reliable imaging products at reasonable price, Canon has been captivating the heart of photography enthusiasts, semi-professional ones and pros who enjoy getting quality images using the lightweight, user-friendly and not-so-complicated features through its Canon X0D series. After the introduction of 50D and EOS 7D, the 60D was released to bridge the gap between the two. Boasting 18 megapixel CMOS sensor, ISO 100-6400 that is expandable to 12,800 and 1080p HD video recording, the 5.7 x 4.2 inches Canon 60D is constructed from polycarbonate resin with glass fiber on aluminum chassis, which is a lighter approach from the previous cameras’ magnesium alloy body.

The combination of 18.0-megapixel CMOS sensor, improved ISO capacity and powerful new DIGIC 4 Image Processor on board of the Canon EOS 60D creates remarkable images with incredibly fine details and superb color reproduction even when shooting in dimly lit conditions. The Canon 60D comes with improved features that include faster start-up time, higher burst rate and control functions on the back side, along with full HD movie capture feature and video-and tripod-friendly 3:2 ratio articulated Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). The 60D’s first-EOS-ever high-resolution, flip-out Vari-angle 3.0-inch Clear View LCD monitor allows user to shoot at various angles. The highly-transparent, stain-resistant LCD is equipped with water-resistant coatings and anti-glare to assure clear and bright viewing. The 1,040,000 dots/VGA Vari-angle EOS 60D monitor offers easy access to set the features, such as ISO, AF Point selection, metering modes and flash.

Image Quality

As the case with the other X0D series, Canon 60D also offers sophisticated AF technology, with 9 cross-type AF points and -0.5 – 18 EV AF working range at 23 degree Celsius, ISO 100. Its metering sensor is also a noticeable upgrade compared to Canon EOS 50D’s TTL 35 zone SPC and EV 0.0 – 20 EV metering range. The Canon 60D’s enhanced iFCL 63-zone, dual-layer metering system and 9-point AF system ensures better accuracy and image results, even when shooting in conditions where the lighting system changes, such as shooting inside a theater. In short, the Canon 60D is a great tool for capturing scenes with extreme brightness differences. The 60D color variations can be applied to images directly using the Scene modes, and user could preview the effects in Live View. The EOS 60D camera is also able to covert raw files to JPEG files and set the images to a 3:2 aspect ratio, correcting lens aberrations that range from distortion to chromatic aberration. The Canon’s improved 96 percent coverage viewfinder also allows user to see more of their objects.

Video Quality

The Canon 60D is equipped with improved EOS HD Video mode with manual exposure control and the 60D is compatible with the full line of Canon EF and EF-S lenses. Thus, you could pair the Canon 60D with any of your Canon EF/EF-S lens to achieve macro, super-telephoto, and tilt-shift, fisheye or other different imaging results that were previously reserved for still imagery. The Canon 60D is able to capture full HD video (1920 x 1080) at 30, 24, and 25 fps up to 4GB per clip. Other Canon 60D’s recording sizes include HD at 1280 x 720 (50/60 fps) or SD/VGA at 640 x 480 (50/60 fps)–24/30 fps for cinema-like video, while 60fps is perfect for making video footage, aimed to be uploaded to video-sharing sites.

User is able to edit the video file in-camera, on-site or off. Unwanted scenes can be discarded and the start/end points of video footage can be selected via Canon 60D’s in-camera editing functions. User may also crop its SD-quality video to produce video that equals to 7x magnification of regular shooting. Furthermore, audio input level can be adjusted to Auto or Manual, up to 64 levels, and a wind filter works to minimize unwanted background noise. By pressing the Quick Control button, user could adjust image quality, white balance, image creation and other settings. A built-in microphone allows for mono recording and self-powered external microphone could produce stereo sound.

At about 25 pounds, the camera is suitable for pros, semi-pros and/or newbies to carry around. With fast start-up time (less than 1 second), speedy autofocus and minimum shutter lag, the Canon 60D is able to capture rapidly-occurring scenes with remarkable precision. Continuous shooting capability is up to 5.3 frames per second (fps), resulting in an estimated 58 Large/JPEGs and 16 RAW. The Canon 60D uses compact, reasonably priced and popular SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards easily available in various parts of the globe. Software on-board includes Canon EOS Digital Solution Disk (Version 23.0), EOS Utility (Version 2.9.0) for Macintosh or Windows, Digital Photo Professional (Version 3.9.1), ZoomBrowser EX (Version 6.6.0) for Windows and ImageBrowser (Version 6.6.0) for Mac OS X, and Picture Style Editor (Version 1.8.0). As an image capturing/processing device that combines usability, functions, and the advantages of still photography with High-definition video recording, the lightweight yet durable Canon 60D is a great option for photography enthusiasts, semi-pro or pro photographers who wish to maximize quality and liberate performance of their Canon 60D.
